I had the opportunity to spend 10 days in Cambodia with Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a family in need. During my time there in January 2020 I was able to spend a few days at the Cambridge Cambodia School. Getting to know the kids at the school allowed me to see the daily struggles they face and I’m excited to work with CambCamb to continue making a positive impact in Cambodia.

One of the first things that attracted me to join the Cambridge Cambodia school project, was their goal to bring free education to the youth of Cambodia, and to discover the many ways I can help make an impact. It is so important to support the education of all children around the world, I believe that everyone should have access to an education, no matter your socio-economical status, gender or where you live.

At the beginning of this year I had the opportunity to spend time in Cambodia working with Habitat for Humanity to build a house for a family in need. During that time I visited the Cambridge Cambodia School where the Suffolk volunteers were greeted with the warmest welcome by the staff and students at the school. The students were nothing but kind and welcoming. Their intensity in the classroom and willingness to help and support one another was truly inspirational. It was clear how much they all love to learn and how happy being at school made them. I value the experience I got to share with these students whether it was from singing, dancing, outdoor games, or reading to them, they inspired me to want to continue working with CambCamb so they can continue to learn at a place that brings them so much joy.

In January 2020 I had the opportunity to go to Cambodia to work with Habitat for Humanity and visit the Cambridge Cambodia School. I didn’t realize that my love for children could grow even more. These students were more than an inspiration. They had so much passion in the classroom to not only study English, but to help one another learn. I’m thrilled and excited for the opportunity to serve on the Board of CambCamb and hope one day to start my own nonprofit.

Growing up in Singapore, I had several opportunities to visit Cambodia, including a trip where we spent time learning from and playing with at-risk kids. I’ve seen firsthand some of the difficulties these children must overcome, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to support the CambCamb kids by writing a grant for school supplies.

Lily Schub

Senior, Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School

I was adopted from Cambodia at 11 months old and raised in Cambridge. For one of my birthdays I raised money for my orphanage in Cambodia and am happy to get more involved in helping the CambCamb school. I love music and dance and have worked as an assistant gymnastics coach.
